Managing Multiple Medicines
Taking several different prescription and over-the-counter drugs at the same time can be difficult to manage. Some medicines are taken once a day. Others, three times a day. Some medications are most effective if taken on an empty stomach. Others are better with food. The situation becomes more complex as more medications are added to the regimen. Many older adults take more than 10 different medications each day.
Here is a chart to help you manage multiple medications. For each day, write down all the prescription and over-the-counter medicines you take, at what time of day, and how much (dose) you take each time. When medicine is taken, cross it off the list.
