Evaluation for the Unevaluated:
Program Evaluation 101
What Is Evaluation?
As he reread Debbie Detailed's letter, one word kept popping out at Jack.
Evaluation...Evaluation...Evaluation?
Jack had a vague recollection of evaluation, covered as part of a class in graduate school. He managed to find an experienced evaluator but wasn't sure what else to do.
Jack was nervous. He knew from his friends in the prevention field that prevention program staff needed to work closely with their evaluators to get the best information. He'd heard that a significant number of evaluations did not return useful-or even usable-results. Apparently, there had been problems in the planning process.
Jack had budgeted quite a bit for the evaluation, as the grant had required. He thought the money would be better spent on the program. Why did they need an evaluation?
