The Making of an Evaluation Project

What does an evaluation project look like, Jack wondered? He could picture his Cool After School program. Middle school boys and girls working on homework and sharing healthy snacks. He envisioned them playing team sports and skill-building games with the young adult role models he would hire from the local community college.

But when he thought of evaluation, he imagined somber people in dour suits with giant calculators. Folks who became evaluators because accounting was too exciting. Evil Snidely Whiplash twirling his mustache and laughing as Jack's program was shut down. Jack decided he'd been watching too much television. After all, isn't evaluation supposed to help make your program better?

But how? He knew what to do to get Cool After School up and running. And he knew an evaluation would be worthwhile. But he'd never actually been involved in one.
