Wading Through the Data Swamp:
Program Evaluation 201

Introduction - Page 2 of 3

Dear Jack: It's not as bad as it seems. You just need to learn more about evaluation. The more you know about evaluation research, the better. That way you can become part of it. You need to work with the evaluator instead of waiting to hear what he says about your program. A good evaluation requires the researchers and program staff to be active partners. It also helps you see what's happening during the program so that you can fix any problems. That way you'll have better results. If your program worked as well as you say, you'll find a way to prove it.

Sincerely,
Dr. E. Val
