Marital Rape

Did you Know?
Victims of marital rape are 11 times more likely to be clinically depressed.

Marital rape can be defined as any unwanted sexual acts obtained by force, threat of force, or when the wife is unable to consent. These sexual acts can include intercourse, anal or oral sex, forced sexual behavior with other individuals, and other unwanted, painful, and humiliating sexual activities.

Marital rape is not talked about very often but it is very real in many relationships. In fact, one study found that one in seven married women report that a current or ex-husband raped them or attempted to rape them.6

The psychological effects of marital rape can be quite devastating because the perpetrator (abuser) is someone the woman loves and trusts. Victims of marital rape are 11 times more likely to be clinically depressed and 6 times more likely to have trouble being in groups of people than women who have not been raped.7
