The Methods and Ways of Abusers
Not all men use all types of abuse at all times. Over the course of time, however, an abusive man will inflict verbal, emotional, physical, and sexual abuse on a woman if there is no intervention. Where the abuse occurs may differ in dating relationships. Remember, whatever method a man may use, it usually is about power and control. Alcohol may or may not be involved. When it is, risk of violence increases.
Some methods of abuse may include the following1,14:
- Using financial pressure, which keeps the woman from earning a living or supporting herself financially
- Using the children to hurt the woman, such as threatening to take them away
- Using male privilege to treat the woman as a lesser person
- Instilling fear through threatening gestures or looks
- Isolating the woman from family and friends
