Other Drugs Related to Sexual Assaults

Date rape drugs are added to a woman's drink without her knowing.

In the last 10 years, three drugs besides alcohol have been linked to increased incidences of rape and date rape. High school and college age youth are using and abusing these drugs more than any other age group. The drugs are:

• Rohypnol, a sedative
• Gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB), a sedative
• Ketamine, an anesthetic

These drugs depress the central nervous system. They are often colorless, tasteless, and odorless. Thus, they can be added to a woman's drink without her knowing. In addition, they cause women to forget what happened while they were under the influence of the drug.
