Substance Abuse-Related Violence Against Women
for Anyone Concerned About The Issues
Module 6: Alcohol, Drugs and Sexual Assault (Date Rape) - Page 8 of 9
Summary
- Sexual assault/date rape happens to many more young women than most people realize. It is estimated that one in four women will be sexually assaulted by the time they turn 25.
- There are many myths about sexual assault that hurt women and stop many of them from asking for help. A woman never deserves to be raped nor does she ever ask for it, regardless of what she wears or how she behaves.
- Alcohol is the largest risk factor for sexual assault. For example, men in fraternities are more likely to try to force a woman to have sex with them after drinking alcohol. In addition, binge drinking on campuses is highly linked to sexual assault.
- The drugs most related to sexual assault are Rohypnol, GHB, and Ketamine.
