Module 7: Preventing Sexual Assault - Page 4 of 9
What Can Men Do To Help Stop Rape?
- Avoid alcohol and other drugs that will only cloud your judgment.
- Ask yourself how your sexual "beliefs" affect your attitudes and actions toward women.
- Accept a woman's decision when she says no. Do not see it as a challenge.
- Know that forcing a woman to have sex against her will is rape and is a crime.
- Never be drawn into a gang rape at parties, fraternities, and bars; try to stop them.
- Do not assume you know what a woman wants.
- Do not have sex with a woman who is drunk.
- Do not whistle at, talk to, or look over a woman in ways that make her feel uncomfortable.
- If you feel you are getting a double message, say so. Ask her what she wants. If she says she is not sure, assume the answer is no and let it go.
- Never joke, believe, or support the idea that a woman "wanted it."
- Never think a woman owes a man sex under any conditions. Sex is not payback for an expensive meal or an evening out.3,7,8
