Messages That Mean "NO"
Sometimes people have a hard time clearly saying that they do not want to have sex. They will do or say something that means no without actually saying "No." This can be confusing to the other person. We are all able to sometimes understand non-spoken messages. If you are not sure, ask. If you are trying to make someone do something against her will, you could be committing rape.
The following messages are taken from a Dating Violence Prevention Curriculum9:
- "I'm just not sure."
- "I think I've had too much to drink."
- "I'm not ready."
- "Please stop."
- "I don't want to get pregnant."
- "I don't want to go all the way."
- "I don't feel like getting AIDS."
- "I'm confused."
- "I don't feel like it."
- "I don't feel good about this."
- "I know we have done this before, but I don't want to now."
- "I don't feel as if I know you well enough."
