• Women who have been abused have service and treatment options available in their local community (e.g., counseling, legal advocacy, shelters).
• Women who have a problem with alcohol or drugs also need treatment separate from treatment for abuse (if they need both). Treatment for alcohol or drug problems may include inpatient or outpatient counseling, with an emphasis on spiritual growth through 12-Step programs such as AA.
• There are steps all women can take to try to keep themselves safe at home, at work, or during a violent incident.
