It Won't Happen to Me:
Substance Abuse-Related Violence Against Women
for Anyone Concerned About The Issues
Who Can Use This Course
This online course is for people who have any connection to or interest in the issues of substance abuse or violence against women. You could be a:
- Family member, such as a spouse, parent, child or cousin;
- Friend or neighbor of an abused or addicted woman; or
- A victim yourself.
Substance abuse and violence against women are difficult subjects to talk about. Each could fill an entire program of study. This tutorial discusses the things that substance abuse (mainly alcohol) and violence against women have in common.
What Is Covered in This Course
Women of all ages can be abused. Here we will look at violence against women from high school age and older, including rape, sexual assault, dating violence, and domestic violence. We will show the ways in which alcohol or drug abuse is related to various types of violence. We want to give you information, tools, and resources to assist you in improving your life or the life of someone you care about.
Alcohol addiction and violence against women can be emotionally hard topics to read about. If you need advice or counseling right away, please call the hotlines available in your area. This information also does not replace the need to talk to a doctor or a mental health specialist to see what might need to be done.
